Ruth Hill Translations

I’ve always been fascinated by languages. I’ve studied a variety at different levels throughout my career so far, including French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Latin and, most recently, Chinese! I completed a BA in French and Spanish language at the University of York, which gave me the invaluable opportunity of spending a year abroad in France and Spain; this enabled me to gain cultural insight and hone my language skills. During my year abroad, I volunteered for a charity in Spain where I had frequent opportunities to put my translation skills into practice.
I then went on to achieve an MA in Translation Studies with distinction from the University of Leeds, where I specialised in French-English and Spanish-English translation. My particular areas of specialty are literary and medical translation, but I have received excellent feedback in a variety of subject areas.
I am an Affiliate member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting and a Career Affiliate of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, and am a member of ITI’s regional branch, Yorkshire Translators and Interpreters. This gives me invaluable opportunities to engage in CPD to further develop my skills, by attending webinars and being part of a network of other professionals. As a member of these professional bodies, I am committed to the highest standards of quality and abide by the CIOL and ITI’s Codes of Professional Conduct. For example, I only translate into my native language, which is necessary to ensure a completely accurate and idiomatic translation.
I use the ITI’s Model Terms of Business, so you can rest assured that your text is in safe hands.
